Hello
My name is Teri Jacobson. I am honored to be a part of your unique story. Thank you for coming here and considering ways to bring support, balance and compassion. Each journey is unique and I meet you where you are, no matter if it is a new diagnosis, an aging parent or spouse, or the road with dementia.
If you are in wellness, thank you for being open to living a life through the lens of death. The work of planning for end of life in all domains is a gift to yourself and to those who love you. Noone wants to leave a mess for someone else to sort, and no one knows when our day will be here. It’s bigger than a Will or a Health Proxy. It is important work and I am honored to guide you.
If you are with an organization, I applaud you for wanting to educate and deepen the skills of staff, congregations or members. We can coach and train how to share the care, how to take care of the caretaker, how to support others in difficult situations and why it is important to self-care.
No matter what brings you here, I am grateful. Thank you for trusting me to support you in navigating the bridges of life.
My Story
I wasn’t always a Doula. In my corporate professional years, I was a counselor for employees who were moving globally and I assisted and supported them during their acclimation and integration into new community. There was much grief, fear, unknowns and isolation involved in moving away from familiar. There was the logistics side and then there was the whole person parts. I pulled from this experience in knowing a safe place is needed for people to voice things held tight. A place to navigate the emotional, spiritual, practical, mental and physical transition happening during time of change. I shifted this skillset to disease diagnosis and end of life. After watching several friends travel dis-ease and illness back into wellness or to end of life, I witnessed the lack of whole person care. There is more to care than “medical” care. My friends were in need to be seen and heard in all domains of their living. After years of journeying with people, a very dear and personal loved one was diagnosed with cancer. This time I was a care partner and once again found the need for whole person non-medical support for both the person, their loved ones and the care takers. I knew I had been training for the role of a Doula for most of my life, so I made the shift and trained to be an End-of-Life Doula and Conscious Living/Dying Educator. I would be honored to walk along the many transitions in life with you and yours.
